Smile Makeover

What is a smile makeover?

A smile makeover is the process of improving your smile through one or more cosmetic dentistry procedures.

The goal of a smile makeover is to improve your smile by taking into consideration your facial appearance to develop your ideal smile.  You and your dentist will discuss what you would like to improve about your smile and the aspects that you currently do not like.

A balanced smile gives the appearance of proper tooth proportion and good oral health. Your dentist will work with you to design a treatment plan that enhances your aesthetics and gives you a beautifully balanced smile line.

What does having a smile makeover involve?

A smile makeover will incorporate several aspects of cosmetic and general dentistry based you your individual needs. Treatments such as tooth whiteningveneers, white fillings and crowns may be considered.

Orthodontic treatment may also be a part of a smile makeover.

What can a smile makeover remedy?

Once you have discussed with your dentist the aspects of your smile you are unhappy with, they will be able to provide you with some options. The most common reasons for a smile makeover are:

Tooth colour

If you suffer from discolored teeth, a smile makeover can restore their appearance. Teeth whitening can improve the colour of stained teeth or if other treatments are needed you may be a candidate for porcelain veneers

Teeth that are misaligned can be straightened and properly aligned through orthodontics or may be improved with veneers.

Teeth that have gaps between them may be aligned via orthodontic treatment, or may require composite bonding or veneers.

Missing teeth

Missing teeth are unsightly hinderances that can affect the appearance of your smile. They can be replaced with a variety of options

Chipped, cracked, or uneven teeth

Teeth that are chipped, cracked, or uneven can be cosmetically bonded or veneered to improve their appearance.

The effects of aging and every day wear and tear can age your smile by shortening the teeth. The front teeth can be lengthened and reshaped with composite bonding or veneers.

Smile makeover treatment

Before your smile makeover plan is developed your dentist must first evaluate the condition of your oral health.

Your dentist will evaluate your teeth, gums, underlying support structure and bite to determine your options.

Once it has been deemed that you can have treatment and would like to explore your future smile, mock-ups of your teeth with a trial smile can be created to show you how the teeth would look at the end. This helps to see what can be realistically achieved prior to starting treatment.
