Inlays and Onlays
When a filling becomes large but there is still a significant amount of healthy tooth structure remaining an inlay/onlay may be advised over a crown. Inlays are made from porcelain, gold or composite resin and as they are made in the laboratory we are able to achieve much better contacts, shapes and final finish. An inlay sits in a hole within the tooth and an onlay sits on the tooth to build up its shape commonly used when part of a tooth has fractured.
Crowns and Bridges
If you have a weak tooth or are missing one or more teeth, you may need a crown or a bridge. A crown sits over a tooth that may have been broken or weakened and will thus serve to return the tooth back to its former strength, function and appearance.
A crown could be used for a number of other reasons, for instance, if you have large discolored fillings and would like to improve the appearance of the tooth. Following root canal treatment crowns are often indicated to protect the underlying tooth structure in addition they are used to.
If you are missing one or more teeth, a bridge may be fitted. There are many types of bridge, from a very conservative Resin Bonded Bridge to a Conventional Fixed Bridge which uses either a single or multiple crowns either side of the missing tooth to support an artificial tooth known as a pontic.
However as there are many alternatives to replacing a missing tooth, your dentist will go through all of the options available to you at your consultation appointment?

Endodontics and Root Canal Treatment
Endodontics deals with problems in the tooth pulp/nerve. Nerve damage can be caused by a number of factors including decay, trauma and even repeated irritation. If the nerve/blood supply of the tooth is damaged the tooth may throb, become sensitive to temperature extremes and even cause infection in the jawbone which could lead to an abscess. Traditionally, this type of tooth damage meant complete removal of the affected tooth but advances in dental technology now means the problem can be treated with a root canal procedure which involves cleaning, disinfecting and filling the interior of the tooth
At Dental Sense we have invested heavily in endodontic materials and equipment which means we are able achieve predictable and successful results with the greatest efficiency.
Whats more new anaesthetic techniques (wand anaesthesia) and the use of the revolutionary Endox help us carry out this whole process very nearly painlessly.
